Isaac
Isaac

At the age of 5, Isaac was diagnosed with Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID), a Primary Immune Deficiency characterized by low levels of serum immunoglobulins (antibodies) and an increased susceptibility to infections.

"There was no period of good health for him after his birth," says Isaac's mother, Kathy. "It was a vicious cycle of infections...bronchitis, pneumonia, strep throat, sinusitis, and ear infections.  He never just caught a "cold."  Everything turned into an infection which needed antibiotics. There was even a time when he had a staph infection from insect bites.  By the age of 4 he was allergic to half of the antibiotics on the market.  We made 100 visits to various physicians before a diagnosis was made."

"After Isaac's first infusion with plasma-based IGIV, there was a sparkle in his eye which we had never seen before." Kathy says. "Within 2 to 3 months he started to play more, his diet improved, and the constant coughing subsided.  We finally felt as though our child, and our family, had a chance of having a somewhat normal life."

Today, Isaac receives biweekly infusions of Gammagard S/D, distributed by Baxter and processed from plasma donated at BioLife Plasma Services.
